Upshard is free and has nothing to sell, including you. This page describes everything the site does with data, in the order it matters.

What we store

Only what an account needs to be useful: your email address, which lessons you have started or finished, what you have bookmarked, and any notes you write. That is the complete list. There is no profile to fill in, no name required, and no password — sign-in is through GitHub, Google, or a one-time email link.

Without an account, progress is kept in your own browser’s local storage and never reaches us. Clearing your browser data clears it.

What we don’t do

No advertising, no selling or sharing of data, no third-party trackers, and no cookies beyond the one that keeps you signed in. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font CDN, so loading a page does not announce you to anyone else.

Analytics, where used, are self-hosted, cookieless, and truncate IP addresses before storing anything. They count page views; they do not build a profile.

Videos

Lessons embed videos from YouTube through youtube-nocookie.com, and the player only loads once you click play. Until then, no request reaches YouTube. Once it does, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that playback — we have no access to it and receive nothing back.

Your data, on demand

Your account menu has two buttons that do exactly what they say: export my data hands you a machine-readable file containing everything listed above, and delete my account removes all of it immediately and irreversibly. Neither needs an email to support, and neither has a retention period attached.
